Would you like to fly away to Skye?

800px-chilean_dhc-6_twin_otter_in_flight_1990Councillors on the Isle of Skye and Raasay recently approved a proposal to reopen the Broadford airstrip on Skye to small passenger planes from Glasgow. The proposal will now be sent to the Highland Council for a decision. If approved, flights between Glasgow and Skye could start in roughly 2 years….just about time for MacLeod Parliament! We will be hosting a clan tent at the 2nd Annual Kerr County Celtic Festival on October 8th & 9th. Last year this games event was held in mid-summer, but thankfully, has been moved back to October and should be great fun. The games will be held in Ingram, TX at the Hill Country Arts Foundation…I hear they even have a replica Stonehenge nearby, if you need another reason to stop by. More information about the games can be found at the games website and facebook page.

We’d love to chat with local MacLeods, and would be happy to sign up new members and renewals to the Clan Society! Also remember that you can always sign up or renew your membership at the clan website using PayPal.

When hearing the name Hugh MacLeod, most clan members immediately think of our current clan chief. However, in the 1800s Texas was home to its own Hugh McLeod. Born in New York, Hugh McLeod was educated at West Point but soon resigned his US military commission in order to join the army of the Republic of Texas. While in Texas McLeod became a military leader, though he is best known for leading the failed Santa Fe Expedition. He also was active in the political world and even served in the Texas House of Representatives.
