Scottish Texans

Eilean DonanI was looking at an article about Scottish Texans, published by the Institute of Texan Cultures, today and saw that McLennon County, TX was named after a man from the Isle of Skye, the heart of Clan MacLeod country!

While Neil McLennon wasn’t a MacLeod, Clan MacLennan has historic ties to the Loch Duirch area, very near the Isle of Skye…so he may well have been a distant MacLeod cousin of some sort. You may know Loch Durich best as the home of Eilean Donan Castle, which has been featured in movies like: Highlander, Made of Honor, James Bond – The World is Not Enough, and many others. And if you are ever driving up to Skye from Glasgow or Edinburgh, it makes a nice photo opportunity…with restrooms and a gift shop. 🙂
